The history of Cyber Monday
The National Retail Federation's Shop.org division coined "Cyber Monday" in 2005 after noticing a surge in online shopping the Monday after Thanksgiving, when people returned to work with broadband connections. Within a few years it became one of the biggest online shopping days of the year. As home internet became universal and mobile shopping took over, the distinction between Black Friday and Cyber Monday started to blur, with both now stretching across the entire week.
How Cyber Monday is celebrated
Online-only deals, free shipping promotions and last-chance pricing on holiday gifts. Many retailers extend it to "Cyber Week". Amazon, Walmart, Target and Best Buy typically lead promotions.
